Firebase Dynamic Links Are Shutting Down. Now What?

Share Now

Change is a fact of life, but some changes hit harder than others, shaking the very foundation of how businesses operate. One such shift that has turned the world of thousands of app developers and marketers upside down is Google’s announcement regarding the deprecation of Firebase Dynamic Links (FDLs). As of August 25, 2025, FDLs will be officially discontinued, leaving many app developers and marketers at a crossroads.

Once that deadline hits, Firebase Dynamic Links will no longer function. User journeys that work seamlessly today will become journeys to nowhere, and the customer experience and conversions will become broken. Users are going to be lost, and bounce rates are going to increase, and this is going to hit the bottom line, not to mention the chance of losing money in advertising dollars.

We are talking broken links, lost users, halted acquisition funnels, and disrupted engagement flows. So, if your application is dependent on dynamic links (which it probably does), then this is way more than an inconvenient announcement. This is a real wake-up call.

However, there’s no need for panic when Apptrove has got your back. Apptrove’s Dynamic Links are here and ready to catch your users before they fall into the deep abyss of 404s. With the primary purpose of keeping user journeys uninterrupted, improving conversion rates, and streamlining link management, we have you covered.

But First, What Are the Firebase Dynamic Links (FDLs)?

Firebase Dynamic Links are Google’s smart URLs that you could use to take users to specific in-app destinations regardless of whether or not they had your app installed. FDLs supported deferred deep linking which meant that users would be routed to specific content after installing the app rather than just dropped onto the home page of your app.

They were useful. But not perfect.

FDLs lacked bulk management tools. There were no native QR code generators. You couldn’t quickly create Smart Banners or scripts to facilitate web to app linking. And forget email integrations or a sharable referral framework, it was always a patchwork solution. So basically, FDLs were great until they weren’t.

How Dynamic Links Work

What Will Happen When Firebase Dynamic Links Stop Working?

If you’re still relying on FDLs and don’t switch from Firebase before the August 2025 shutdown, let’s break down what you stand to lose.

1. User Acquisition Funnels Will Fail

Without functional dynamic links, app installs may hit a wall because users are no longer directed to the right post-install content. This means your onboarding flow is broken and your conversion rates will decline.

2. Referral Programs Will Collapse

If your referral programs use FDLs, your links will stop redirecting. That means no tracking, no rewards, and no growth via word-of-mouth. Businesses like e-commerce that rely on user-to-user sharing will no longer be able to do so.

3. Users Will Drop-off and Churn

Your users expect seamless app navigation. Generic fallback pages or broken links will frustrate them, increasing bounce rates and churn.

4. Revenue Loss Will Pile Up

Lost campaigns can lead to lost sales, fewer upsells and spending more to reaquisition of users. Whether our business is in e-commerce, travel, gaming, or fintech, broken links can cost you thousands in missed conversions daily.

5. Campaigns Will Fragment Across Channels

Engagement campaigns across email, social, SMS, and web that you stitched together with Firebase dynamic links will fall apart. Cross-channel engagement will crumble and you will risk losing all your conversion through the entire funnel.

If you’re looking for a superior alternative to Firebase Dynamic Links, Apptrove’s Dynamic Links are your answer. Apptrove’s Dynamic Links are designed to give you everything FDL did, and some more. Features Comparison table of Firebase and Apptrove

Here’s why thousands of brands are already switching:

1. Optimized for Conversion, Not Just Redirection

Unlike Firebase, Apptrove’s dynamic links go beyond simple link routing. Every click becomes a personalized, context-aware journey.

  • Smart Banner Campaigns That Actually Convert: Use Smart Banners and Smart Scripts to capture web traffic and seamlessly route users precisely where they need to be inside your app.
  • Contextual Routing: Automatically tailor destinations based on user device, source, or campaign. No more sending iOS users to Android pages.
  • Deferred Deep Linking: Don’t lose momentum post-install. Users land on the right in-app content even if they download the app midway.

2. Advanced Link Management & Customization

If you are managing thousands of links across campaigns, regions, or partners, Apptrove has got you covered.

  • Bulk Link Creation: Make hundreds of links in minutes, not hours.
  • Detailed Attribution & Analytics: Get actionable insights about the links that bring the best results and the ones that dont, so that you can figure out the reason.
  • Custom Branded URLs: Maintain brand trust while improving CTRs with recognizable, vanity URLs.

3. Designed for Omnichannel Compatibility

When your customers live across platforms, your links should too.

  • QR-to-App: Turn print ads, product packaging, or billboards into trackable app installs.
  • Email & SMS Deep Linking: Send users straight from inbox or message to in-app content.
  • Social Campaign Compatibility: Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, whatever be the channel, the custom links are optimized per platform.

4. Privacy and Security Built-In

Unlike Firebase, which operates within Google’s ecosystem, Apptrove’s solution is fully compliant with GDPR, CCPA, and other global privacy laws. Apptrove prioritizes user privacy and data security, ensuring compliance and consumer trust.

5. Easy and Painless Migration

We know switching platforms sounds daunting. That’s why we made sure that your switch from Firebase is effortless.

  • Automated Imports: Transfer your entire FDL library into Apptrove in a few clicks.
  • Guided Workflows: Use our setup wizards to configure redirect logic and preview performance.

How to Migrate From Firebase Dynamic Links to Apptrove in 5 Minutes?

Step 1: Audit Every FDL You Use

Track every link across email campaigns, landing pages, push notifications, QR codes, and social ads. Export them with paths, fallback URLs, and deep link structures from your Firebase console.

Step 2: Recreate Them in Apptrove

Head to the UniLink section in your Apptrove dashboard. Create a new template for each link. Input your deep link path, fallback web URL, and any custom parameters for campaign tracking. Update your SDK implementation, our technical support will help you in that.

Step 3: Replace All Firebase Links

Swap every Firebase link in your app, website, campaigns, and ads with the new Apptrove Dynamic Links. This ensures smooth redirection across all touchpoints.

Step 4: Test and Monitor

Run QA checks across devices and platforms to ensure:

  • New users are sent to the app store or fallback URL.
  • Existing users land inside the app.
  • Tracking works as expected.

Use Apptrove’s analytics dashboard to monitor link performance and optimize results.

Why You Should Start Migrating Now

Every day you delay increases the risk of broken campaigns, failed user journeys, and lost revenue. Once August 25, 2025 hits, every link that hasn’t been replaced will go dark.

One broken referral link during a major campaign. One dead onboarding flow in your busiest season. One 404 error instead of a checkout page. The damage to your user trust, brand reputation, and bottom line could be irreversible.

Be the brand that planned ahead, not the one scrambling in crisis mode. Migrate to Apptrove now and protect every click, tap, and conversion before it’s too late.

FAQs

1. When exactly will Firebase Dynamic Links stop working?

All Firebase Dynamic Links will stop working on August 25th, 2025. After this date, any FDLs, Whether they’re in ads, emails, QR codes, or your app, will return 404 errors. If you’re using Firebase’s APIs, they’ll also return error responses (400/403) starting that day.

2. What happens if I don’t migrate before the shutdown?

Your links, user journeys, growth metrics, and everything will be broken. Campaigns that rely on deferred deep linking, referral tracking, or cross-platform routing will stop functioning. That means lost installs, disrupted experiences, and lower revenue.

3. Will Apptrove support all the use cases I relied on Firebase for?

Yes, Apptrove’s Dynamic Links offers full support for deferred deep linking, smart routing based on OS, geography, or campaign, custom branded links, bulk link management, QR/SMS/email/social sharing, and detailed attribution. All while being in a privacy-compliant, enterprise-grade platform.

4. Can I use my existing custom domains with Apptrove?

Absolutely. If you’ve branded your FDLs with a custom domain (like links.yourbrand.com), you can reuse the same domain within Apptrove. Our team can guide you through DNS updates and redirect logic to ensure a smooth transition.

5. How easy is it to migrate my existing Firebase links to Apptrove?

It’s quick, efficient, and mostly automated. Apptrove supports metadata exports from Firebase and offers guided migration workflows in the Apptrove dashboard. You can also bulk import links via CSV or API.

6. What happens to my Firebase link data after the shutdown?

Your Firebase link data will be marked for deletion starting August 25, 2025 and purged shortly after. Google will not retain or archive your historical data, so be sure to export it early.

7. I need help migrating, can someone walk me through it?

Definitely. Our onboarding team offers hands-on migration support to ensure nothing slips through the cracks. Ping us at support@apptrove.com!
